Growing Up Country (Poem)

Back roads bending left and right

Swerving like our Friday nights.

Gravel flying, dust trails, lights,

All us country kids living up a Saturday right.

Swimming holes, porch swing, the local lemonade stand.

Horse back, bare back….we are the “keeping it country” brand.

County life has shaped us right.

Bicycles, helmet less, no mamas full of fright.

We played in puddles barefoot,

We chased in potato sacks.

We’d gather up our friends

And head into the woods with our backpacks.

Mama didn’t worry and Daddy didn’t swear.

We all grew up country and went to the county fair.

Kids these days they’re living inside of their phone,

Wondering where the ‘living’ is when they’re living all alone.

Locked up in bedrooms playing with their video games,

Sorta makes us country folk think their technology is to blame.

We all scratch our heads and think, “Go!……get out and play,”

As we reflect back on our lives that have shaped us to this day.

Back roads bending left and right,

Swerving like our Friday nights.

Gravel flying, dust trails, lights,

All us country kids living up a Saturday right.
