We’ve had to take down some dangerous trees that could do damage to our farm structures.
Mike finally milled one of the two large logs that comprised one large oak we took down. This is how much lumber was generated from that half a tree.
If you look closely you’ll see the lumber on the mill itself, the big board on the ground next to the mill, then the boards in the lower right hand side of the photo, then the lumber on the ATV trailer.
You literally couldn’t really even get this lumber at a Lowes or Home Depot. They don’t even really sell oak. They sell pine. I can’t imagine what the cost of this would be if you needed to get your hands on this much oak. And, the amazing is we have even more logs to cut.
Having a portable log mill on your farm is about the best tool we have in terms of conversion into value. Mike believes its his mill and his tractor that generate the most ‘return on investment’ on our entire farm.
This is just one great example and he did that all in one afternoon.
